Welcome to the Nevada Neptunes web site.  The web site will inform swimmers, parents, fans and supporters about upcoming events, locations of meets, directions to get you there and times.  In short we want everyone to get "the word", and the web is almost always available.  So please check the site from time to time and be sure to give us your suggestions.

ABOUT THE NEPTUNES

Nevada Neptunes is a competitive, summer swim team, but "competitive" seems misleading. The coaches structure practices to improve technique and physical fitness.  The "competitive" part is more about swimmers besting their own times, rather than beating the guy in the next lane.  "Best Time" iron-ons are awarded at almost every meet to swimmers besting their previous fastest times.  However, beating the guy in the next lane is always fun, too.

SWIMMER QUALIFICATIONS

Kids strong enough to dog-paddle, float or swim twenty-five yards are encouraged to come out.  Nobody is an expert at the beginning.  All are experts when they finish.  Eighteen is the upper age limit.

COACHES

We are blessed with excellent instructors.  Head coach Karen Claypool swam competitively in college.  David Celaya and Shelby Thorns both swam for the Neptunes and love to share their passion for the sport with younger swimmers.  They all love kids and seek to teach swimmers to motivate themselves and their teammates through strong relationships. See their biographies for additional information.

PRACTICES

The Neptunes practice daily, Monday through Friday, May 26 until August 2.  Monday through Friday practices start at Love that water! The more practices a swimmer attends, the stronger he or she will be,  but there is no team rule requiring any minimum attendance.  Some swimmers play baseball or softball.

THE MEETS

The Neptunes compete in the Tri-State Swim League, attending nine "invitational" meets per season, plus two or three "dual" meets against teams in neighboring communities, plus a Tri-State Championship meet for those who make qualifying times and compete in at least three invitational meets.  Some meets are one day (Saturday) meets; some are two-day (Saturday and Sunday) meets,  but there is no requirement to attend both days. Duals are mid-week, evening meets.  The meets are a fun picnic environment with good, clean competition.   Swimmers are encouraged to attend all the meets they want to, but they do not have to attend any.  Kids find competing just makes it more fun. Swimmers compete in heats, by age and ability.
